Sample Preparation Considerations

Nanomaterial samples require careful preparation to preserve native structure:

  • Dispersion: Sonicate suspensions to break up agglomerates before mounting
  • Substrate Selection: Use clean silicon wafers, carbon film, or polished metal stubs
  • Drying: Critical point drying preserves structure of suspended materials
  • Coating: Ultra-thin carbon or Pt/Pd coating for non-conductive nanomaterials
